Today is Mother’s Day and it’s a quiet morninig but I love quiet Sundays.  Chai Latte in one hand and a paintbrush in the other.

My youngest will come home from work tonight and make me dinner.  We will laugh and just feel the joy in what it is to spend time together.  It is that way when your children are no longer “little” .  You can stand back and look at them and truly appreciate the human beings they have become.  Sometimes I am in such awe of  my girls because while you see bits and pieces  that you know came from you …. you also see the bits of pieces that is just who they are as individuals and wow the love you feel for them just comes rushing up.

I received a beautiful email from my oldest today who has been going to school in England this past year .. it made me cry.

On May 30th I will be the woman at the airport whose mascara will be running down her face holding the biggest sign she can find that screams “Welcome Home .. I’ve Missed You So Much”.  She won’t be embarrassed as she may have been back when she was 14 or 15 … she’s now a 20 year old woman.  She will open her arms to me with tears in her eyes as well and say “I love you Mom and I’m so happy to be home”.  That will be the only Mother’s Day present I want.

This is my favourite tree on our property.  It sits tucked behind a ridge in an open space that almost whispers “sit down and relax”.  We placed a bench there last year so you can do just that.

Depending on how the sun is sitting in the sky the tree almost seems backlit at times which creates a golden glow below it.  It brings up feeling of calm in me but then again all of nature

does that doesn’t it?

Dreaming With A Broken Heart

April has simply flown by and with it (fingers crossed) the unspringlike weather.  This is the coldest spring I can ever recall … my god we had snow yesterday.

Today I brought my bike outside and am hoping to spend some time discovering new areas of the Muskokas.  I feel so fortunate to live in such a gorgeous spot in Ontario.  Look for new paintings which capture

Today I set a few of my smalls out for varnishing.

I don’t enjoy varnishing but from my point of view … it’s necessary… so I do it ….

I would show you some in process pics but wouldn’t subject you to the boredom of that … rather like watching wallpaper dry …

The only part of varnishing I do find pleassure in is the “after” … the varnish brings out the depth and luminosity of the colour and since I use a lot of glazing in my work … it’s kinda magic!

March is here!!!

When March finally rolls around I breathe a sigh of relief …. spring is on its way.  I need spring right about now especially the feel of the sun against my face … the whisper that summer is right around the corner.

I started the the above work a week or so ago but kept putting it aside cause it just wasn’t working and then this morning over a hot cup of chai and CBC radio … viola … it started to come together ….

Not complete yet as I feel I  need something in the foreground  especially the left hand side.  Perhaps the perfect place for a few trees as it will anchor the eye before it goes travelling around the work but for now I’m a happy girl …

So here I sit with a whole lotta white screen in front of me with not a hell of a lot to say … this totally explains why I haven’t posted in so  long.

Guess I’ve just been living life.

But all is good …

My artwork has taken a bit of a turn and I’m more than pleased with the work I’ve been producing lately.  It has atmosphere and it simply feels like the work I’m meant to do…. if that makes any sense whatsoever…even I’m rolling my eyes at that one.

The last few pieces I’ve completed on panel and I’m loving it big time!  While canvas seems to drag a bit, panel is oh so smooth.  Trying not to think too hard on why things seem to be clicking …from past experience the whole analyzing of it screws it up … so for now I’ll just go with it.

I received a nice email from Lisa Call last week asking if she could feature my work on her monthly newsletter.  If you don’t know Lisa Call … you should!   She is one of the hardest working, talented artists out there.  And she’s a textile artist .. major soft spot for artists who work in fiber and thread.  Anyway, I’ll be featured in March so don’t worry if you forget, as luck would have it..I’ll be here to remind you.

Only a few days ago I was waking up to this gorgeous view … I was really getting into the festive spirit but yesterday the rain started with temps of +10C …seriously?

It’s dampened my mood but with things being so busy around here I haven’t had much time to dwell.

A couple weekends ago we had our good friends over for a visit to the new house … I really miss them not being just around the corner.  We had a wonderful time catching up on everyone’s news and along with a lovely lunch

I made Dark Chocolate/Coconut Scones … yummy!

My friend Kelly gave me a bottle of this as  a house warming gift …. the most perfect wine I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.
