No doubt fall is here and slowly winding its way down to make room for winter …. sigh!
A few of the oaks on the property are still clinging tightly to their leaves but other than that we are all but bare.
For me the changing of the seasons is comforting although it does have me reflecting more on the passing of time and how quickly it all moves.
My youngest daugher arrives home next week for a visit. She was here at Thanksgiving as well and the day she was due to arrive was one of pure excitement.
I had been anxiously awaiting the call all day. Nervously moving from one thing to the other unable to fully focus on much. Even though I knew the call wouldn’t come until later in the evening the anticipation was high. When the phone finally rang (yes, I’ll admit I was hovering over it) I jumped in the car and made the short 5 minute drive to town. I caught a brief glimpse of her and then she noticed me (the crazy woman who doesn’t enjoy driving in the dark). I threw the car in park leaving John stranded in the passenger seat. I simply ran as fast as I could and I’m not a good runner, believe me. I pulled her as close as I could and I held her sweet face in my hands. After six weeks she was home … if only for a brief time … she was still home.
So in honour of that and because I know how much she loves chocolate .. I made chocolate cake.
I dont’ know anyone who doesn’t like chocolate cake. If you don’t than obviously I don’t know you. But having said that, I bet we could be friends because I’ve got a cake that will make you not just like chocolate cake but will have you fall to your knees, hands raised to the heavens and shout “hallelujah”
This delicious, moist dessert comes from “I Am Baker”. It is “hands down” the best chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten.
Your can thank me later …..
